A few miles from Pisa, surrounded by the Pisan mountains, is the Valgraziosa, the wide and lush valley of Grace , so called by the Carthusian monks who settled here in the XIV century.

The town is placed in the golden triangle of Pisa, Lucca and Florence. The surrounding hills that divide Pisa and Lucca   provide a natural ampitheatre.

Monuments of historic interest such as the Certosa di Calci, famous as one of the world’s most beautiful monastic monuments, with splendid frescoes in the 1500 rooms and near the hamlet of Montemagno, where Pope Eugenio III was born. Next to the Certosa is a Natural History Museum.

The town boasts a Romanesque Pieve constructed in the second part of the XI century. Since this time there have been transformations and alterations to the original building.

The heart of the town is a 5 minute stroll where you can find shops for all your needs.  Pop out for an ice cream at one of the gellaterie, a bottle of olive oil from a local producer or a freshly baked pane for breakfast.  The town has its own newsagent to purchase bus tickets, petrol station, bank, hairdresser, post office, hardware shop, pharmacy and supermarket.  There are five restaurants within walking distance with many more a short drive into the hills or in Pisa or Lucca.

Eating out in true Tuscan style could not be better or more hospitable that at Pozzo di San Vito just a couple of hundred yards from Casa Calci. Why not visit pozzodisanvito for a look at the sort of food you can experience.

Calci offers a tennis club, foot and bike trekking in the surrounding valley and hills.
