Much can be told about the
history of
Tuscany
and in particular its role in the shaping of the Renaissance.
Tuscany's name can be attributed to the Etruscan civilization,
which settled in the area around 1000 BC.
Throughout the centuries
the region has contributed greatly to the world of art and
architecture. It is one of the most famous places in the world
because it offers something for everyone. Those that enjoy the
sea can spend time on the coast. Skiers can make their mark on
the Apuan
Alps. Bikers, hikers and walkers can all enjoy the rolling hills
and landscape that the region has to offer. Tuscany is full of
tradition, charm and beauty all of which is waiting for your
to discover.
Described by the poet
Shelley as a paradise of exiles, Tuscany epitomises the
quintessential Italian countryside, its rolling hills of green
olive groves and Chianti vineyards punctuated by dark cypress
trees and topped by perfectly preserved mediaeval hill towns,
none more beautiful than the small and ancient town called
Calci.
